However, this frigid season didn't exist until the first demonic invasion several thousand years ago, when a goddess realized her hidden powers to call forth freezing wind and snow.

During the invasion, Alna, formerly a solitary guardian of the mountains where the gods resided, was confronted with endless swarms of demons. Despite slaying countless Hypogeans, she was still outnumbered. Angered by the transgression into her realm, Alna let loose a shriek that summoned icy-cold blasts and drifts, freezing the enemies where they stood and bringing winter to Esperia for the first time.

Every following year, she would shriek from the mountaintops, ushering in another winter."
